Whatever your background, this time of year makes you think about independence. First, we have Juneteenth, when we commemorate the end of slavery in the U.S., and then we have Independence Day in the U.S. on July 4th. Yesterday, the 14th of July, was Bastille Day in France, a national holiday to celebrate the day in 1789 when the common people of France stormed a prison that symbolized the injustices of the French monarchy, a major event toward winning democracy.
What does independence mean to you?
- Do you appreciate your independence?
- Do you have parts of your life where you are dependent on people, situations, substances, mindsets, etc.?
- While we strive for independence in most circumstances, we must remember that with independence comes responsibility.
In this video, I discuss the times in my life when I’ve had independence versus when I was dependent and how I found freedom.
